What We Teach At San Soo Street Smarts you will study the traditional Kung Fu San Soo Fighting Style as taught by Grand Master Jimmy H. Woo to Master Russell Williams. The program will emphasize the following two areas of instruction:
The first is the traditional fighting system of San Soo based on punching and kicking, combined with leverages, throws, grappling, nerve, and ground techniques to produce the whole fighter approach.
The second area of instruction is the learning and perfection of San Soo hand and weapon forms to teach proper breathing, stepping and balance for fighting. This two phase instruction begins with the student learning the basic hand forms. With experience, students are then taught the traditional San Soo weapons and integrate them into the forms.
Belt Ranking and Requirements The San Soo Belt System used at Street Smarts is the same system used by Jimmy H. Woo. It is composed of 5 colors: white, yellow, green, brown, and black. Each belt demonstrates an acquired basic skill for that level.
White Belt The introductory Belt Level to Kung Fu San Soo. At this level, you will learn under supervised instruction the way of San Soo. This is the beginning of your internship to become a professional fighter.
Yellow Belt The second phase of your internship in San Soo on becoming a professional fighter. This belt represents that the individual has mastered certain basic skills in techniques, and forms and has started their professional development. This Belt Requires 4 to 6 Months of study of being a White Belt.
Green Belt The final phase of your internship. With the Green Belt, the practitioner has perfected basic fighting skills necessary to become a professional fighter in the San Soo system. All green belt students will also have at least two traditional San Soo weapons, as well as knife, and baton fighting. Students at this level are also expected to have accquired knowledge of San Soo terminology by this time. This Belt requires 10 to 12 months of study from Yellow Belt.
Brown Belt This Belt is the junior black belt rank. It is the fulfillment and perfection of the Green Belt. All the basic fighting skills are brought to a higher degree of perfection, combined with the study of three more weapons and San Soo Fut Ga's (Attacks). The Brown Belt is trained in the ways of becoming a Black Belt. Requires Up to 1 Year of Additional Study from Green Belt.
Black Belt The final belt rank in the San Soo System of Fighting is composed of nine levels of mastery. The Black Belt ranking starts with your initial Black Belt, then proceeds from 1st Degree to 8th Degree (the Master rank). The initial black belt is the culmination of at least three years of continuous training. In addition to increased training in techniques and Fut Ga, it includes 5 new San Soo weapons. Requires 1 or more years of study from Brown Belt for the initial Black Belt. 1st Degree to 8th Degree requires 1 year of study for each level and another San Soo weapon.
